Pool Decks From JR Concrete & Design

A pool deck does more than surround the water. It is where your family walks barefoot, where guests gather and where every splash ends up, so it has to be safe underfoot, comfortable in the sun and built to shed water away from the pool and your home.

We plan the details that make a deck last: a compacted base, reinforcement, correct slope, expansion joints where the deck meets the pool coping, and a finish chosen for traction and heat. If your existing deck is cracked, sinking or worn out, we handle the demolition and replacement around the pool.

What’s Included

  • Walk-through and layout around the pool, spa and equipment
  • Demolition and haul-away of an old deck (if needed)
  • Compacted base, forms and steel reinforcement
  • Slope for drainage away from the pool and the house
  • Expansion joints where the deck meets the coping and other structures
  • Slip-resistant finish: broom, salt finish, textured or stamped with an anti-slip sealer
  • Sealing recommendations and full cleanup

Popular pool deck finishes

  • Broom finish: Reliable grip when wet and the most budget-friendly option.
  • Salt finish: A soft, pitted texture that is comfortable on bare feet and stays cooler than smooth concrete.
  • Stamped and colored: Slate, stone or wood-plank patterns with integral color, sealed with an anti-slip additive. See stamped concrete.
  • Lighter colors: Lighter tones absorb less heat than dark concrete, which helps on hot summer afternoons.

Getting an Exact Price

Every pool deck project is priced individually, because size, site access, demolition, base conditions and finish all change the scope. One of our owners visits your property at no charge, measures the job and talks through your options. Your written quote then lists base prep, thickness, reinforcement, concrete PSI, demolition and finish on separate lines, so you can see what each part costs and what you are getting for it.

Pool Decks FAQs

What is the best finish for a pool deck?

Slip resistance comes first. Broom and salt finishes give good grip when wet, and stamped or colored decks can be sealed with an anti-slip additive. Lighter colors and textured finishes also stay more comfortable underfoot in the sun.

Can you replace the deck around my existing pool?

Yes. We remove the old deck, correct the base and drainage, and pour a new one that meets your coping cleanly. During the estimate we look at how the pool, equipment and landscaping are set up so the plan works around them.

How much slope should a pool deck have?

A pool deck should slope away from the pool, typically about 1/4 inch per foot, so water drains off the deck instead of back toward the pool or your house. We set the slope during forming.

Do I need a permit for a pool deck?

It depends on the scope and your city. Work around a pool can involve permits and pool safety or barrier requirements, so we tell you what is likely to apply during the estimate. Your city building department has the final say.
